In his famous “Sermon on the Mount,” Jesus gave directions for living – directions that prepare us for life in his eternal Kingdom by teaching us how to live now. (Matthew 5 – 7)
This sermon calls us to make peace, extend mercy, and love our enemies. It calls us to treat those in need with the same love and tenderness we would wish others to show us during our own times of need. Later in Matthew’s gospel, Jesus reiterates his call to love recklessly by feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, inviting strangers into our homes, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, and visiting those in prison. Christ said that when we do these things for the least of these, his “brothers and sisters,” we are doing them to him. (Matthew 25:31-40)
At Renovatus, we strive to serve the Lord by honoring his request to reach out to the poor, the needy and the marginalized. We want to meet physical and material needs as well as spiritual ones. Whether through mercy (meeting immediate needs) or justice (meeting needs at their roots), our goal is to extend “radical hospitality,” fully measured, pressed down and overflowing.
Through collections linked to special times of prayer and fasting each year, the Benevolence Team at Renovatus organizes and administers the congregation’s efforts to help meet the physical and material needs in our community during crisis situations. We saturate our efforts with prayer, seeking the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and direction.

Like Christ, we are here not to be served but to serve. (Matthew 20:28) We invite you to join us on the journey as we seek to love perfectly in this broken world.
